👤 User Profile

Customise user profiles in tchop to build a personal connection.

User profiles are more than a set of fields—they tell a story about each person in your organization. At tchop, we’ve designed profiles to be flexible, functional, and deeply customizable. Here’s a closer look at profile fields and the options available for customization.

The building blocks of your profile

User avatar

Your avatar is the first thing people notice on your profile. If you don’t upload one, we’ll display your initials as a placeholder to ensure your profile always looks complete. The avatar is a fixed, visible field and a great way to express individuality.

User are free upload an image and crop it easily in app or web. Also we can sync avatars with an existing user management or SSO if required.

User role(s)

This field reflects the permissions you hold within your organization. If you have different roles in multiple channels, the highest one is displayed (admin > editor > editor-limited > reader). For added privacy, admins can configure this field to be hidden from profiles altogether.

Profile feed

The profile feed lets users share images and videos that reflect their work or personality. Its a dedicated visual feed attached to the profile. Visitors of the profile can swipe or scroll through it. Published content is visible to others visiting the profile, but organizations can choose to hide this field entirely if privacy is a priority.

Gender

Users can select "Male," "Female,", ”Couples”, “Non-binary”, or “Trans, transvestite” with "None" as the default setting. Once selected, an icon appears next to the username. If organizations prefer not to include gender as part of the profile, this field can be disabled through configuration.

Profile sharing

This feature allows users to share their own profiles or the profiles of others with just a click. If not required, admins can disable the sharing option for their organization.

Email field

Email is a mandatory field that cannot be edited by users as it is the unique identifier of our platform. It’s by default visible in the edit profile view, but organizations can choose to hide it from public profiles for added security. Additionally, the email field itself can be removed from the edit profile screen to avoid unnecessary visibility.

Name field

The name field is both mandatory and editable, allowing users to update their names as needed. If no name is set, the first part of the user’s email is used as the default. Organizations can make this field uneditable or hide it from the edit profile view entirely.

Company, department, and position

These three text fields allow users to highlight their role within the organization. Admins can rename these fields to fit their organization’s terminology and decide whether each field is visible, or hidden altogether from the edit profile view.

Bio field

A customizable text field for adding a short bio or tagline. Organizations can rename or hide this field, depending on their preferences from the edit profile view.

Phone number

Users can add their phone numbers for communication purposes. Especially in mobile apps it makes starting a call with someone very handy. This field can be hidden from the edit profile view if privacy is a concern.

Location

This field allows users to share their location either as a text entry or by selecting from a standardized list powered by the Google Places API - a great way to ensure consistent location data. Organizations can rename or hide this field as needed.

User tags

Admins can create organization-wide user tags that users can apply to their profiles. It offers a nice way to structure your user base and make it more accessible through filtering. User tags can of course also be assigned through some kind of underlying logic, displaying badges, inventives or any kind of status a user has reached (eg by participating in quizzes or surveys). This field can also be hidden to prevent editing if necessary.

URL field

Users can add a clickable link to their profile, such as a personal website or portfolio. The field can be renamed or hidden as per organizational needs. In the user profile, the URL is displayed as a hyperlink text which is same as the set field name.

Social fields

Users can link their social media accounts, including

  • Facebook

  • Instagram

  • LinkedIn

  • Youtube

  • Tiktok

  • X (Twitter) and Snapchat. Each linked account appears as an icon on the profile. Organizations can choose to hide individual social fields if needed.

Total control with admin configurations

Admins have full control over how user profiles function and appear. Every field can be customized—whether it’s renaming fields, hiding them, or limiting edit permissions. Note, that most profile updates require updates in the mobile apps.

However we don't recommend to change details of profiles too often as this tends to confuse users decreasing usability and engagement of the feature.

For organizations using single sign-on (SSO) or those who don’t want users to edit their profile, the entire "edit profile" button can be disabled, ensuring profiles remain consistent with the data provided by the SSO or organization (via for example CSV import).

Customization at a glance

  • Rename = The field name can be renamed.

  • Hide from profile view = The field can be hidden from the public user profile so that even if the field is not empty, if some other user open the profile of the user, the field is not shown to the user .

  • Hide from edit profile view = The field can be hidden from the edit profile screen of the user preventing user from editing the field.

  • Editable = If the field can be edited by the user if it is visible. “Yes or No” means the field can still be displayed in the edit profile view but the editing of the field can be managed via the config.
