Description of Functionalities

The tchop platform comprises:

  1. Backend Content Management System (including user management)

    1. Content Management

    b. User management

  2. Secure real-time chat

  3. Documented programming interfaces (APIs)

  4. Standard native front-end applications (iOS 16+ and Android 12+)

  5. Standard web application for modern browsers

  6. Powerful engagement and community features

  7. Analytics dashboard

The following describes the core functional scope of the platform. As part of continuous development, details may change or expand over time; major customer-relevant functions will remain available and be improved regularly. New app versions are generally released every two months.

1. Backend Content Nanagement System (CMS) including User Management

The tchop CMS is a browser-based system—no local installation required. It supports all modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge). It is a turnkey solution to curated, aggregate and distribute content, but also to manage user access, rights and roles.

a. Content Management

The CMS enables efficient creation, aggregation, and curation of content. Each organisation can host multiple channels, which represent independent content areas (e.g. topics, departments, communities). Within each channel, editors can:

  • Create and manage mixes (thematic sections and feeds)

  • Add, edit, publish, delete, or reorder content cards

  • Choose from 10 card types: short/long posts, link teasers, social media embeds, images, galleries, GIFs, videos, audio/podcasts, PDFs, and threads (find more info here)

  • Scrape or parse teasers and full posts from URLs

  • Move or copy cards between mixes

You find more information about the flexible options to structure and customise your community experience here.

tchop combines the strengths of a content curation system with a full CMS, enabling both manual and automated content flows. Content can be imported automatically via integrations for:

  • RSS feeds

  • Website scraping

  • YouTube and Podcasts

  • Slack or other APIs

Custom integrations and automations can be built via API or workflow tools such as n8n. This makes it easy to implement any modern LLM into your workflows in order to summarize or generate any kind of content.

Administrators can send push notifications or in-app messages to selected users or groups—immediately or scheduled—and link them to content. Each card offers rich display options and comment functionality. User comments and reactions can be moderated in the CMS.

tchop is the first enterprise CMS built entirely around mobile-first feed curation.

b. User Management

User management defines access roles and permissions across organisation and channel levels. Roles include:

  • Curators/Editors: full CMS access to create, edit, and publish content

  • Editor Limited: mobile app contributors who can propose (not publish) content

  • Readers: app users who consume and interact with content

Users can be added manually or in bulk (CSV import). The CMS shows login and activity data (limited for privacy reasons).

tchop supports integration with SSO, ID, or payment providers via OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or SAML 2.0, as well as API or webhook sync. Clients retain full control over authentication, roles, and user profiles.

2. Secure Real-Time Chat

The integrated chat module provides secure, high-performance real-time communication. Users can chat in:

  • Closed groups

  • Open groups (accessible to all)

  • Read-only groups

  • 1:1 chats

Admins can create, manage, or restrict chat groups and link them to specific mixes or content. Users can share all supported content types directly from or into chats, mention others, and receive push notifications.

The chat feature is optional and can be limited to selected user groups (e.g. management teams).

3. Documented Programming Interfaces (APIs)

We offer modern JSON- and Graph- based APIs facilitate to empower smooth integrations:

  • Input API: automated import of structured content from third-party systems

  • Output API / Data Stream: export of published content (channels, mixes, cards) to other websites, apps, or systems

Comprehensive documentation and secure token management are provided within the CMS. So it becomes easy to input any content automatically or in return to use any of our output to be used in any other system.

4. Standard Native Front-End Applications (Mobile Apps)

tchop provides native iOS and Android apps in the client’s brand design, optimised for both smartphones and tablets.

Customisations include: colours, typography, logos, icons, and navigation structure.

Key features:

  • Personalised feeds and mixes

  • Real-time chat

  • Content sharing, bookmarking, and reactions

  • Video and audio playback

  • Push notifications and message centre

  • Profile editing

  • Optional home-screen widgets (iOS)

  • Editor sharing extension for content import from other apps

Apps are distributed via MDM or app stores, require login, and are continuously updated by tchop (typically every two months).

And the best news: tchop will handle the whole app store, update and maintenance process for you. So that you can focus on the content and your community.

5. Standard Web Application

In addition to native apps, tchop offers a fully responsive web application with identical functionality. It runs seamlessly in all modern desktop and mobile browsers—no installation required. It basically has the same feature set like the mobile apps, so you can provide your users a seamless experience on any device.

The web app provides:

  • Full access to content feeds, mixes, and channels

  • Real-time updates, commenting, and engagement features

  • Integrated chat and notifications

  • Custom branding (logos, colours, fonts)

    Custom navigation

  • Support for SSO and secure authentication

This enables organisations to reach users across all devices—mobile or desktop—through a unified experience consistent with the native apps.

tchop continuously maintains and updates the web app alongside the native applications, ensuring identical feature development cycles, performance optimizations, and security updates.

Of course the web app can easily be deployed on any custom subdomain (e.g. community.yourdomain.com) to make it feel all yours. It smartly integrates with your website, also allowing embedding of content, comments or other engagement elements on your site to drive traffic to your community.

6. Engagement Features

The tchop platform combines content distribution with integrated community and interaction tools, enabling direct, meaningful engagement between users and content creators. These features are designed to increase participation, retention, and ongoing platform usage within each channel or organisation.

Users can engage with content and each other through a comprehensive set of features:

  • Likes and Reactions: Allow users to express appreciation or feedback quickly and intuitively.

  • Comments and Threads: Enable open discussions directly under content items, supporting nested replies and mentions (@username).

  • Content Sharing: Users can share individual cards or entire mixes internally within chats or externally via native device sharing functions.

  • Direct Chat: Reach out to single users and get feedback on any topic quickly

  • Push Notifications and In-App Messages: Deliver timely updates, editorial highlights, or targeted messages to users—either globally or to defined segments.

  • Bookmarks: Let users save important content for later reference.

  • User Mentions and Highlights: Encourage direct, personal interaction between community members.

  • Rating and Feedback Modules: Enable administrators to gather structured feedback or prompt app-store ratings through native forms.

  • Social Feedback: Drives continuous engagement by notifying users when others interact with them—e.g. when someone replies to a comment, likes a post, or mentions them. This dynamic loop of reactions and notifications fosters an active sense of community and significantly increases repeat usage.

From an administrative perspective, all engagement functions are fully configurable. Comments, reactions, and sharing can be activated or restricted per channel, mix, or card type. Moderation tools in the CMS enable editors to review, hide, or remove user-generated content that violates community guidelines.

In full compliance with the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), tchop includes transparent and auditable user-reporting mechanisms: users can flag content, comments, or messages that they consider inappropriate. Reports are automatically routed to administrators for review and action.

All engagement activities are processed securely and in accordance with GDPR principles. Only minimal, aggregated data is used for analytics, ensuring privacy by design.

The engagement layer forms the social core of the tchop ecosystem—linking content, chat, and community into one seamless user experience across apps and web. Continuous development ensures that engagement tools evolve alongside the platform, supporting modern communication habits and customer-specific community models.

  1. Analytics Dashboard

The tchop platform includes a powerful Analytics Dashboard that delivers real-time insights into user behavior, content performance, and engagement effectiveness across mobile and web.

Core structure and filtering

  • Analytics data is organized into three main categories: Content, User, and Others (organizational metrics)

  • Universal filters (e.g. timeframe) apply across all sections. More specific filters allow narrowing by channel, content mix, categories, or tags.

Key metrics and visualizations

  • Content & Engagement: total posts published, views, reactions, comments, shares, and notification-linked data.

  • Interaction breakdown: For each content type (text, image, video, PDF, audio, thread, etc.), the dashboard shows engagement rates (i.e. how many pieces had at least one reaction, comment, share, or reply) and interaction percentages.

  • Top content and comments: Highlights top-performing cards by views and engagement and the best-performing user comments by likes or replies.

  • Channel & Mix analytics: Tracks performance at the channel or mix level: counts of posts, views, reactions, shares, comment activity, and average time spent in a mix.

  • Notification analytics: Monitors how many push and in-app messages were sent, their open rates, reach, and effectiveness.

  • Session & User engagement: Measures active vs. engaged users, session durations by platform, sessions per day, and behavioral funnels illustrating how users convert from registered → active → engaged.

  • User role performance: Tracks content output and engagement statistics per user role (e.g. curator, limited editor) to monitor contribution vs. consumption.

Data sourcing and privacy

  • Metrics are collected through both the backend and frontend instruments (including the mobile/web SDK) to help ensure accuracy for view tracking, engagement, and session data.

  • Data collection respects privacy and security standards. Only aggregated or anonymized data are used for reporting, in alignment with GDPR and internal best practices.

Purpose & value proposition

  • The Analytics Dashboard empowers organizations to make data-driven decisions, adjust content strategies, and identify trends in real time.

  • By comparing engagement across content types, mixes, or channels, editors can optimize and iterate more efficiently.

  • Notification analytics and funnel analysis allow measuring the impact of active messaging and retention strategies, closing the feedback loop between editorial efforts and user behavior.
